Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Interfaith dialogue is essential for promoting peaceful coexistence in diverse communities like Bukuru LGA, Plateau State. Public relations (PR) plays a vital role in facilitating these dialogues by creating platforms for mutual understanding, addressing stereotypes, and fostering collaboration among different religious groups. PR strategies such as organizing interfaith forums, leveraging media campaigns, and engaging community leaders help build bridges across religious divides. Recent studies emphasize the importance of PR in promoting tolerance and addressing misconceptions through strategic communication and advocacy (Odeyemi & Abdulrahman, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to foster interfaith harmony in Bukuru LGA, tensions and misunderstandings persist due to inadequate communication and engagement. This study explores the role of PR in promoting interfaith dialogue, identifying effective strategies and challenges.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the role of PR in facilitating interfaith dialogue in Bukuru LGA.
  2. To identify effective PR strategies for promoting mutual understanding among religious groups.
  3. To assess the challenges faced in implementing PR initiatives for interfaith dialogue.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. How does PR facilitate interfaith dialogue in Bukuru LGA?
  2. What PR strategies are effective in promoting interfaith harmony?
  3. What challenges hinder the success of PR initiatives in fostering interfaith dialogue?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: PR does not significantly promote interfaith dialogue in Bukuru LGA.
  2. H1: Strategic PR initiatives enhance interfaith harmony and understanding.
  3. H2: Addressing communication barriers improves the effectiveness of PR in interfaith dialogue.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study highlights the role of PR in fostering interfaith harmony, offering insights for policymakers, religious leaders, and communication practitioners. The findings aim to strengthen interfaith collaboration and peaceful coexistence in Bukuru LGA.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on PR’s role in promoting interfaith dialogue within Bukuru LGA, excluding other social or political contexts.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
